Finished solid flooring

  • Aged edge oak has been developed for a naturally worn look to create the effect it has been in the property for hundreds of years. It can be finished in any one of the colours we have available however we have chosen the whiskey as it complements the gently worn edges. As the floor if completely finished by hand here in our Kent workshop every board is bespoke which emphasizes the natural worn look, this is an effect you cannot create using a machine.

    DESIGN

    When we created the aged edge oak flooring we have been very keen to not give the floor a false appearance and so therefore insist on completing all the work by a skilled team using only hand tools. By choosing this traditional method it allows us to tweak the flooring as we are working on it to ensure no two boards are the same.

    CONSTRUCTION

    Orlestone oaks aged edge solid oak floor is a 20mm solid European oak. It has stress grooves on the back of the board to realise any tension should the board encounter and variations in moisture. The aged edge flooring also comes end matched for increased security.

    PROCCESS

    Orlestone oak take the standard 20mm thick character flooring and rework it by hand to produce a floor with a truly authentic aged look. It goes through a few stages where our skilled workforce use hand tooling to give a bespoke finish to each board. We then finally hand apply the hard wax oil finish taking great care to get an even coverage and correct drying time.

    MAINTANANCE

    To maintain orlestone oak aged edge flooring you should clean with a dedicated flooring cleaning products such as the bonna floor mop. You can also use a floor cleaning wipe or luke warm water ensuring to wipe up all excess water and not leave any on the floor.

    Olrestone oaks aged edge is a individual product to us it is hand tooled and designed to look as though it has had natural wear over years of use. We wanted the floor to appear natural so hand tolling is essential to give the uneven look.

    PROCESS

    To create this beautiful floor we begin with a character grade solid oak board and hand tool the edge to give the beautiful natural edge. We then proceed to hand apply the hard wax oil finish to ensure even coverage and a long lasting protective coating.

    CONSTRUCTION

    The boards used to the orlestone oak solid aged edge flooring is a European character grade board that begins 21mm thick.

    MAINTENANCE

    To maintain the Orlestone oaks solid aged edge oak flooring we recommend using a purpose designed floor cleaning mop such as the bonna floor mop there are other alternatives such as flooring wipes. 

  • Orlestone oaks antique distressed solid flooring is a product we take much pride in. The series of applications the flooring goes through are far more complex than most other floors on the market. Unlike similar products available which are produced solely by machines ours is finished entirely by hand in our Kent workshop to give a truly unique and bespoke finish. Our antique distressed oak flooring is completed using only hand tools by our dedicated team of highly skilled craftsmen. The final product results in a floor that will last decades whilst appearing to have been there decades before.

    DESIGN

    Orlestone oaks solid oak distressed flooring has been designed to offer the best of two fantastic floors. We wanted to produce a floor that appears to have been installed many decades ago whilst retaining the stability and ease of maintenance of a floor produced today the results are fantastic. We have a floor with the antique and distressed qualities and the security of stress grooves and end matching.

    CONSTRUCTION

    The antique distressed solid oak flooring is 20mm thick and we use a character grade European oak.  We then give the oak stress grooves on the reverse side of the board and tongue and grooves along all edges. These factors give the 20mm solid oak board very good stability and reduce the risk of movement. After the Board goes through these processes we then proceed to hand tool the boards to create the much desired antique distressed finish.

    PROCCESS

    Orlestone oaks solid oak antique distressed flooring is one of the most labour intensive floors we offer it goes through a magnitude of processes to achieve a high quality and durable floor with the appeal of an old floor. We begin by giving the board stress grooves on the reverse side we then add tongue and grooves and end matching. The floor then gets filled and sanded before being hand tooled various times until the craftsmen are happy with the patina given. After being aged and distressed the floor then has a hard wax oil applied that highlight the tooling done previously and gives the floor a rich colour very similar of floors seen in oak houses and castles. Finally we give the floor another coat of oil to give it the protective layer that allows the floor to be so very durable.

    MAINTENTACE

    Due to the high quality hard wax oil we use the flooring is very easy to maintain. All it needs is a wipe over with either a very slightly damp cloth with luke warm water or a purpose made floor mop is ideal we recommend the Bonna floor mop. 

  • Orlestone oaks worn and aged look solid oak flooring compliments any space it work so very well in period properties needing a floor in keeping with an aged feel. It has been developed to have an aged look that appears to have worn gently and slowly over time, this is possible by a profile individual to us it rolls from board to board as appose to just the middle of the board being worn. With the added aging effect that is the black grooves the floor is unrivalled when it comes to looking naturally worn.

    Orlestone oaks worn and aged look solid oak flooring has been designed to have a natural and gentle aged look whilst looking very convincing as an old floor. We wanted to and succeeded to create a floor that is not finished to be in your face with the aging look but a floor that appears to have had hundreds of years of wear.

    PROCESS

    We being with a blank board and run it to have our individual profile to achieve the natural worn look. We then add the black inlayed into the bespoke grooves that are hand cut. Finally we will finish the boards with a hard wax oil to give the floor a desirable look and hard wearing finish.

    CONSTRUCTION

    The construction of the orlestone oak worn and aged look solid oak flooring is made from solid European oak and is machined to the bespoke profile made by us here. We then put a tongue and groove onto the boards.
